| We're often asked what you need for your new puppy. Rather than email every buyer, we've comprised a list of information and links for new puppy owners. Check them out and call with any questions. Vet: First and foremost it's important to have a veterinarian for your new baby. - If you need help finding one in your area familiar with the breed, let us know and we can help you. Treats: We recommend rope toys, nylabones, kongs - nothing with rawhide! Greenies: Our dogs LOVE them and have been eating them for years - almost two decades. Treats are for training and good deeds. We use Small MilkBones too which you can get at any supermarket. DO NOT GIVE GREENIES TO DOGS UNDER SIX MONTHS OF AGE! Food: We feed all of our dogs and puppies Canidae All Life Stages/Dry Formula (www.canidae.com). http://canidae.com/dogs/all_life_stages/dry.html Go to the store locater page and enter your area code. There you will find a list of retailers in your area. Follow the feeding instructions on the bag. Puppies need to eat and drink regularly to avoid dehydration and blood sugar levels dropping. Make sure your new puppy eats and drinks regularly every day - no matter what. Bowl: We recommend stainless bowls as puppies cannot chew them up. Buy two bowls (food and water)... smaller sizes are fine. Collars: We recommend an adjustable nylon collar or harness and leash to start. As your puppy grows they will outgrow their collar. Do not buy a high priced collar for new babies. The less expensive nylon ones will serve best until they're full grow... Then you can buy whatever you'd like. Crates: Plastic kennels can be used for travel or vet visits but a wire crate is for the home. The wire crates size we recommend is appx 30x18x20w. Crate Bedding - washable and comfortable - get a size smaller than your crate. Shampoo and Brushes - Basic Flea and Tick shampoo is fine - Blue shampoo to make white hair whitest. Rake brushes are best as you can groom them as needed. We crate our dogs if we're going to be gone an extended period (more than an hour) and overnight for comfort and safety. It also protects young puppies from the hazards associated with teething. When trained properly they actually enjoy the "my space" feeling of the crate and it's not challenging to get them to go in. When we're home we leave the crates doors open and they usually will go in on their own anyway. Flea and Heartworm: We use Frontline for flea and tick and Heartgard for heartworm preventative. You will get these from your vet or get a prescription from your vet and order online.
